Dublin Archers Double FITA

Dublin Archers hosted a double FITA over the bank holiday weekend (Aug 3/4).  The club venue at Whitehall proved popular with in excess of 45 competitors participating on each of the two days. A good geographical spread of archers travelled for the competition.

The Irish summer provided some challenging conditions, despite the sunshine with gusty breezes keeping scores low for the first day. Indeed the gusty breeze took its toll on yet another gazebo, as quick reactions from one non shooting arrow prevented the parachute like gazebo from reaching the shooting line. Saturday afternoon provided a significant rain shower between the last two distances, to add to the challenging conditions.

Sunday proved to be a calmer day with sunshine and little or no rain, scores in general improved on the second day.

Many of the competitors at the bank holiday shoot were novice competitors, shooting their first competition.  Many of the new competitors were pleased with the competition and have expressed an interest in continuing to compete.

Judge, Dave Reynolds kept the pace of the competition lively, assisted by Kevin MacDermott as Director of Shoot.  Single detail and a steady pace ensured a reasonably early finish on both days allowing competitors to enjoy some of the other bank holiday attractions.
