On Sunday the 24th of June, Wicklow Archers Archery Club hosted stage Four of their field archery league for 2013. The event took place in Dargle Valley, Enniskerry Co. Wicklow. Wicklow Archers is one of the few clubs that regularly hold field archery competitions.
The weather caused some difficulty this time round with blustery winds and some showers during the shoot. Even still the day was a warm enough.
A total of 19 archers attended. The most represented discipline on the day was Senior Barebow with 5 entrants.
For 4 Wicklow Archers this was their first ever field competition! With two of these only starting archery in the last few months!
The competition is starting to heat up with changes in the top 3 in many categories. Nowhere is this more present than in Instinctive where Andy Dowling and Antonio Firmo are both tied in 1st place. In senior Barebow Colm Griffin has moved up to 1st place. In the Junior category Philip Cullen moved up to 2nd place. In Youth Ruby F moved up to 2nd place. Maire Hacket is climbing the ladder in Ladies Senior Recurve having moved up to 2nd place with her sights firmly set on top place.
As this is a league the best 3 of 10 scores from an archer will go towards their final standing. This was only the fourth shoot of the year so there is still plenty of time for anyone interested to get some scores in! Beginners are always welcome.
A big thank you must be given to the club members who took the time to design and construct the course and those who ensured the competition ran to plan.
The next league competition is on the 21st of July. We look forward to seeing everyone there!
