On Sunday the 14th of March, Wicklow Archers Archery Club hosted stage two of their field archery league of 2013. The event took place in Dargle Valley, Enniskerry Co. Wicklow. Wicklow Archers is one of the few clubs that regularly hold field archery competitions.
The weather was a little more hospitable this time round but was challenging all the same. Archers were subjected to blustery winds throughout the shoot. This didn’t stop some archers digging deep and scoring well. In senior compound Michael Cooney pulled an extra 23 points out of the bag this time around cementing his place at the top.
A total of 22 archers attended. The two most represented disciplines on the day were Senior Compound and Senior Recurve with 8 and 5 entrants respectively. For 8 people this was their first field shoot of the league, and for at least one participant it was their first field competition ever! As this is a league the best 3 of 10 scores from an archer will go towards their final standing. This is only the second shoot of the year so there is still plenty of time for anyone interested to get some scores in!
A big thank you must be given to the club members who took the time to design and construct the course and those who ensured the competition ran to plan.
The next league competition is on the 2nd of June. We will be hosting the Irish Open Field Archery Championships 2013 on the 4th of May, there are still places left for anyone interested.
