If you go down to the woods today you’re in for a big surprise!! Field Archery
On Sunday the 10th of March, Wicklow Archers Archery Club hosted stage one of their field archery league of 2013. The event took place in Dargle Valley, Enniskerry Co. Wicklow. Wicklow Archers is one of the few clubs that regularly hold field archery competitions.
The weather pulled no punches and delivered a bitterly cold wind which tested the archers throughout the day. The course consisted of 16 targets, 8 of which were at marked distances and 8 of which were unmarked. The challenge is that archers are required to shoot at varying, often steep, angles not common in other forms of target archery. The field league is open to all archers who wish to give it a go from the beginner to advanced. Depending on ability archers will shoot from different colour pegs. Recurve, compound barebow and instinctive forms or archery are all catered for.
A total of 27 archers attended. The two most represented disciplines on the day were Senior Compound and Senior Barebow with 8 and 6 entrants respectively. As this is a league the best 3 of 10 scores from an archer will go towards their final standing.

A big thank you must be given to the club members who took the time to design and construct the course and those who ensured the competition ran.
We look forward to seeing everyone at our next competition which will be on Sunday the 14th of April. This competition is good practise for those who are preparing to shoot in the Irish Open Field Archery Championships 2013, which we will be hosting on the 4th of May.
