On Sunday the 27th of January Wicklow Archers Archery Club hosted the first indoor archery event of 2013. The event took place in Shoreline Leisure in Greystones. Wicklow Archers is the largest archery club in the country with almost 200 members.
77 Archers representing 14 clubs from across the country took place in a Double Fita 18. Olympic Recurve, Compound and Barebow were all represented. There was hot competition for top place in all of the 16 different categories. No competition was more fierce that the Senior Gents Recurve(>550) where at the end of the day both David O’Brien and Keith Hanlon were tied in score with 1115 points each! It all came down to who had shot more tens. David clinched the top spot with 53 tens to Keith’s 51.
Congratulations are in order for Wicklow Archers very own Colm Griffin who placed first in senior gents barebow by matching the Irish record on the day.
For some of the male compound shooters this was a last chance to put in a qualifying score for the euro indoors, sadly however nobody shot the necessary score. However the team going over includes two Wicklow Archers in Rob Hall and Mel Lawther along with Athenry archers Stuart Wilson.
The day ended with a charity raffle. We would like to thank everyone who brought something for the raffle. We would also especially like to thank Keith and David from ASI for their contribution of fantastic spot prizes and their assistance with helping to sponsor the event. Overall we raised €360 which will be donated to the Bray Cancer Support Centre.
A big thank you must be given to Tony Mc Loughlin for Judging the event and to the volunteers who took time out to make the whole competition run smoothly, without whom none of this would have been possible.
