Coaching Ireland

Archery Ireland has developed an Archery Leaders programme which is designed for those who wish to work in the Outdoor Education/Recreation environment. It is designed for those who wish to introduce archery to new comers in a recreational, fun and safe environment.

The course was designed by our Coaching Ireland(formerly NCTC) accredited tutors and is delivered by these skilled personnel.

The course takes place over 3 days. The first 2 days involving instruction and practical assignments. The third day being set aside for written and practical assessment.

Training courses can be arranged given sufficient numbers being interested (Min 8 and Max 12 participants)

Introduction to Coaching Courses

Entrance to the Coaching Course is based upon nomination by an individual archery Ireland club. The following criteria must also be met. The candidate should have: Completed a beginner’s course in archery with a recognised Archery Ireland club.

Minimum of one year’s membership of Archery Ireland and a working knowledge of archery basics and technique.

Skill level necessary to achieve a 200 point score on a 40cm FITA target face at 18m, shooting 30 consecutive arrows.

Candidates will also be expected to abide by the Code of Conduct in Archery and theCode of Ethics and Good Practice for Children’s Sport in Ireland.

The candidate should also be:

  • A minimum of 18 years of age
  • Proposed and recommended by two officers signatory to the club.

Note: Clubs should only recommend those who are interested in coaching or wish to become involved in coaching. Clubs should only recommend those who are in compliance with all of the above criteria. Exceptions to the above rule will only be entertained upon written application to the Executive.

Coaching Education Committee

The Archery Ireland Coach Education Committee, building on a platform for coaching and coach education implemented by previous Archery Ireland Executives, has worked in close partnership with the National Coaching and Training Centre (now Coaching Ireland) in Limerick to develop an approved multi-level Archery Ireland Coach Education Programme.

The Coach Education Committee consists of the following members : Pat Lyons , Vincent Plant and Emanuel O’Dea.
